hot dutch girl

On the same trip different shop I found this impertinent little dutch girl vase in warm colors, so unusual for a dutch girl who would normally be dressed in blue. Don't you just love her?

Silly dishes

Image
A nice story.....a couple of months ago the very last lunch plate from my favorite Aunt's everyday dishes fell to pieces. It was cracked and chipped hanging on by a thin thread. Yes I do have many other of her beloved dishes to use with fond memories but this was a special dish to me. Most mornings I would get up and have toast or bagel maybe an english muffin with jam on this dish. I have never had any other blue dishes. This was the only one. Some how it made me happy each morning. Oh well I would need to find another happy dish. The new Turi-design plates perhaps? Well, Elaine and I were thrift store shopping in Puyallup last weekend (she is the one to go with when you need the luck) and look what I found Chatham Maruta Kasuga Ware 2 plates, 4 lunch plates and 3 bowls! Now I can have oatmeal and eggs with bacon and all manner of breakfast including toast. they are in almost perfect shape.  Silly how a few dishes can make you so happy!

planting seeds today

Planted most of the plants Claudia gave me on Friday including sedum, woodruff,  echinacea, coreopsis and thyme. I still need to cut them back. today I put out in the newer bed in front Eclipse zucchini ( a small round zuch), beets ( detroit red), zinnia (cactus flowered) and leeks ( american flag). On the side bed and under the deck I put bright lights cosmos, Moroccan Sun rudebeckia, borage, Monarda lambada, foxglove, Bluebird forget me nots, Border mix sunflowers behind the raspberry bushes, Irish eyes rudebeckia, pollen less sunflowers. Its a tiny bit early to put much out and we still have lots on the greenhouse. The hens have been laying an egg each everyday for the past week and the little ones are very skittish but just fine! Now onto the hanging baskets.

Chcks staring week 3

May 12th

today we are heading to one of the many plant sales going on this weekend. I am hoping to find something fun or unusual.......trees perhaps! Last night I made a trip over to a friends house to pick up some treasures, a truckload of perennials.  I am lucky enough to have a couple of friends that I can do this with otherwise it would be hard to fund this garden on my budget. Chicks and chicken are doing well and the greenhouse Bill made is wonderful. More seeds to plant today and lots of mowing after we get back.
