Christmas tree hunting

While out hunting out back for our Christmas tree I found some of this moss. If the weather stays this WARM I might find enough for a wreath. I am thinking some cedar and pinecones too! Maybe a big red bow.

Thanksgiving 2012

Turkey soup with homemade noodles and fresh bread tonight.....mmmm good!
We had a warm family Thanksgiving this year just myself, Bill, Chelsea, Nic & Haven. Loads of food and baby stuff spread all over the house.

Bills new batch of "Billy Blonde Ale''
Bill has been making beer for more than 25 years. Billy Blonde Ale is his own recipe that he has been working on for more than 15 years. Bill has made over 100 different types of beer and after all these years this ale is one of his absolute favorites.
He also makes wine and hard cider!
Our snow is already melting. We had 8.5 inches here yesterday. by Monday it will most likely be gone! The first snow is always the prettiest.

crockpot applesauce

Here is my recipe for crockpot applesauce
25 small apples peeled and cored
1/2 cup brown sugar
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 cup water
1teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamon
1/4 teaspoon ginger
1/4 teaspoon of cloves

Put the first four items in the crockpot and mix well. Add spices and mix well. (About 4 hours in I taste check to see if it needs any extra sugar or spices).
Cover and cook on low 8 hours. Thats it.
Enjoy hot with ice cream
Applesauce freezes very well!
BTW this applsauce is a bit darker than you may be used to because of the brown sugar /cinnamon mix!

wreath redo

I almost tossed it again this year but thought I would add a few things then see how bad it looked......Looked OK so put it up one more time!

flags need changing

Last thing to do today is changing the late summer to the Halloween flags

My 88 cent mums

My usual Farm stands are family owned Betty &MaryJo Potett
Betty's is more veggies & fruit and sale flowers. MaryJo's more specialty flowers. In September Betty puts all plants on sale.......88cents for Mums is excellent....they are blooming now.

back outside for a moment

The blackberry bush has great color

Most the small stuff has been located

putting out the seasonal knick knacks

So now that the gardening is over and I am looking around the house seeing all the things I have neglected(like the dusting) I started rearranging and then decided to put out the Halloween stuff before Halloween gets here. Out to the garage for the big orange bin....dig through that and realized I have more Halloween stuff somewhere.

getting the porch ready

Just a few things for Halloween

This Bush

I have no idea what type of bush this is. It is always some of the best fall color on the place.

The maples are finally turning but there is a storm a brewing so they may not last long on the trees

Last pic tonight...virginia creeper

The six sister Pinterest recipe was very easy to make.....a canned pantry sort of deal but pretty good!

one of my new aloe plants

Thanks to one of the Stampin Latte Ladies...I have aloe again!
I do use it for burns. I hope it does well indoors.

Bulk Buying for canning

Our local market had a great deal for canning so this year we took advantage of it. We got pears, peaches and tomatoes ( since the deer obliterated ours).

the LAST of the tomatoes

I am still picking little patches of tomatoes. I have mainly given these to the chickens since the skins are a bit tough. They love to play soccer with them.

peaches in bulk

I cannot wait to taste these! They smell great too.

gorgeous tomatoes

We got 80 lbs of tomatoes. Bill has over last last 2 days made paste, sauce and diced tomatoes.  Bless his heart, all that peeling and dicing in front of the stove for 2 full days!

Bill's new canning pressure cooker

The stove is a mess and the tomatoes are not quite done yet....canning continues.

Jams, jelly, relish and paste

They look so pretty huh?

Dried pepper in all colors

Bill has been drying pepper and lots of herbs

little asters

The bees are going nuts for these right now. They must be sweet

petunias and snaps

tomorrow is OCT 1....granted I have these near some warm rocks but usually these are gone by now.

yellow trees

My maples have not turned yet nor my burning bushes. The first trees always seem to be the yellow ones. The Mountain ash is pretty and the berries are super red  which sometimes indicates a snowy winter.

Mums for 88cents

I bought a bunch and they are doing well. One of our little sugar pumpkins. We decided to use them for decoration instead of cooking them.

End of the summer

Well this is a first I still have nasturtiums. It has been so warm and just a couple of frosts so I trimmed them and they have bounced back

walking in the woods at
